Overlay · For social links
Get the installs your social links were losing
People find your app on TikTok, Threads or Instagram and tap Download. Inside the app’s own browser the store often won’t open, so they go looking for your app by hand, and some never get there. Overlay shows them the way to the store.

What a visitor sees after tapping Download inside Threads
The problem
The visitor taps Download. Nothing happens
TikTok, Threads, Instagram, Facebook and X open links in their own browser. Inside it, App Store and Google Play links often go nowhere.
Interested, then gone
Instead of one tap, the visitor has to look your app up in the store by hand. Some find it. Others drop off.
No way out from code
On Threads for iPhone (Threads 446, iOS 27), every programmatic exit was tested. Each one failed.
The exit hides behind ⋯
The only way out is the browser menu: ⋯ → Open in external browser. Nothing on your page says so.
How it works
From a dead tap to the store
Step 1
The visitor taps Download
An App Store or Google Play link, or any button you mark with data-amply-download.
Step 2
A short animation shows the way out
It points at the browser menu and names the item to tap. Copy link is there as a backup.
Step 3
The page opens in the real browser
Safari or Chrome, with your page as it was.
Step 4
The visitor reaches the store
In Safari or Chrome, your App Store or Google Play link opens as it should.
On Android and in some iOS apps, Overlay first tries to open the store or Safari itself. The hint shows only if that did not happen.
Templates
Three ways to show the way out
Each one takes your app name and an optional title, with a dim or blur behind it if you want one.
Points straight at the menu
A large arrow to the ⋯ button and two short lines of text. Hard to miss, and our favourite.
Setup
Ask your agent. It adds Overlay for you
Create an Amply account, connect Amply MCP to your coding agent and ask it to set up Overlay. It adds one small script to your landing page. Rather do it by hand? Paste the line below. Change the template, app name and title in Amply later, with no edit to your site.
Before </body> on your site
<script async src="https://web.amply.tools/v1/amply-web.js" data-key="wk_your_key"></script>Built for our own app first: live on seabook.app
Live in about a minute
A saved change reaches every site with the script. No deploy, no edit to your page.
About 6 KB gzipped
The hint’s interface loads only inside in-app browsers. Safari and Chrome never fetch it.
Domains only
Amply sees which domains run the script. No cookies, no visitor tracking.
Where it pays off
For social traffic headed to your app
Posts and stories
A launch post on Threads, a story on Instagram. The Download tap on your site gets a way out, not a dead end.
Link in bio
The one link that sits on your profile for months. Every visitor it sends gets the same way to the store.
Meta and TikTok ads
A paid click to your site opens in the same in-app browser. Don’t pay for a tap that goes nowhere.
Creator campaigns
Influencers send their audience to your site. A stuck Download tap still gets a way out.
Community posts
Groups, comments and replies with your link. Each tap gets the same way out.
Before you add the script
Nothing. Overlay does nothing in a normal browser, and it never shows on page open. The hint appears only after a tap on a store link inside an in-app browser.
No to both. Overlay runs on your own site and your URLs stay the same — nothing to wrap or shorten. Where the in-app browser opens the store, it does. Where it cannot, the visitor gets the way out and Copy link, so a Download button is never left dead.
On Android, and in some iOS apps, Overlay first tries to open the store or the phone’s browser itself. The hint shows only if that did not happen.
Not everywhere. On Threads for iPhone every programmatic way out failed in testing, so the only exit is the browser menu. That is why the hint exists.
Yes. Overlay is free. Extra customization, like removing the Amply mention or adding your own branding, may later come with a paid plan. Early adopters keep full access for good.
Only the domains where the script runs. No cookies, no visitor tracking.
The core file is about 6 KB gzipped. The hint’s interface loads only inside in-app browsers.
Ask your agent through Amply MCP, or change it in the Amply admin under Project → Web. A saved change is live on your site within about a minute, without touching the site.

Stop losing people who already want your app
Free. Your agent sets it up in a couple of minutes, then post your link where your audience already is.
